Dr. Alaa El Fanagely, Chairman of the Smart Mobility and Electric Vehicles Association, emphasized that the major difference in charging costs between home and public fast-charging stations shows that home charging is the most economical option for EV users. The cost does not exceed about EGP 190 per 1,000 km, compared to up to EGP 750 when using fast public DC stations.

He explained that the recent increase in prices at public charging stations may push many users to rely more on home charging or community-based charging solutions, especially as consumers become more aware of the cost gap and its impact on overall vehicle operation expenses.

While fast DC stations remain crucial for long-distance travel, consumer purchasing behavior may shift toward vehicles that support efficient home charging, unless further incentives are provided. He pointed out that the Egyptian government’s plan to establish around 1,000 charging stations annually will be key to supporting the growth of the electric vehicle market and balancing the effects of recent price adjustments.

The Electricity Regulatory Authority clarified that home charging continues to follow standard residential electricity rates without any change, while public or commercial stations have separate pricing depending on connection voltage and charging speed.
